As part of its continued growth and commitment to maintaining a safe and secure working environment, BHP is seeking to recruit two highly motivated, disciplined, and vigilant individuals to fill the position of Security Guard. The ideal candidates should be experienced, assertive, and results-driven individuals who understand the importance of maintaining safety, protecting assets, and ensuring compliance with organizational security procedures.
Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this role is to safeguard the company’s premises, employees, visitors, and property. The Security Guard will be responsible for monitoring and controlling access to the facility, preventing unauthorized entry, detecting suspicious activities, and responding effectively to emergencies. This role is vital in ensuring a safe and secure environment that supports the organization’s mission and daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidates will be expected to carry out a range of duties that contribute to the overall security and safety of the organization. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Patrolling and Surveillance
Conduct regular and thorough patrols of the premises, both on foot and, where applicable, using surveillance equipment. The purpose of these patrols is to identify and investigate any unusual or suspicious activity, signs of intrusion, or security breaches. Guards must remain alert at all times and ensure that all areas, including restricted zones, are monitored effectively.
Monitoring Access and Entry Points
Control access to the premises by verifying identification and ensuring that only authorized personnel and visitors are allowed entry. Inspect all entry and exit points to ensure they are secure and functioning properly. Guards should maintain a professional but firm approach when dealing with individuals seeking access.
Responding to Alarms and Emergencies
Promptly respond to all alarm activations, whether related to intrusion, fire, or other emergencies. Assess the situation quickly and take appropriate action, including notifying relevant authorities or management. Security Guards must be prepared to handle emergencies calmly and efficiently to minimize risk and damage.
Visitor Management
Maintain a detailed and accurate log of all visitors entering and exiting the premises. This includes recording names, contact details, purpose of visit, and time of entry and departure. Ensure that all visitors comply with the organization’s security protocols and are escorted where necessary.
Incident Reporting
Document and report all incidents, accidents, or unusual occurrences observed during duty. This includes theft, vandalism, safety hazards, or breaches of company policy. Reports must be clear, detailed, and submitted promptly to management for review and action.
Prevention of Criminal Activity
Actively monitor for and prevent criminal activities such as theft, trespassing, vandalism, or unauthorized access. Challenge suspicious individuals respectfully by requesting identification and clarifying their purpose on the premises. Where necessary, detain individuals in accordance with legal guidelines until law enforcement authorities arrive.
Enforcement of Company Rules
Ensure that all employees, visitors, and contractors adhere to company policies and security regulations. Address any violations promptly and professionally, and escalate serious issues to management when required.
Safeguarding Company Assets
Protect BHP property, equipment, and facilities from damage, theft, or misuse. Conduct regular checks to ensure that all assets are accounted for and properly secured. Report any discrepancies or concerns immediately.
Communication and Coordination
Maintain clear and effective communication with fellow security personnel, supervisors, and other departments. Provide updates on security matters and collaborate to ensure a coordinated approach to safety.
Providing Feedback and Recommendations
Offer constructive feedback to management regarding potential security risks, vulnerabilities, or areas for improvement. Security Guards are encouraged to share insights that can enhance overall safety and efficiency.
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
A Junior Certificate or equivalent educational qualification.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in English.
Previous experience in a similar security role will be considered an added advantage.
Basic understanding of security procedures and protocols.
Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.
Good observational skills and attention to detail.
Physical fitness and the ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods.

Working Conditions
The position may require working shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays. Security Guards may also be required to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions. The role involves physical activity, including standing, walking, and responding to incidents.
