Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified employees of Kanye District Council for the position outlined below. This vacancy is strictly open to serving employees of Kanye District Council only and is tenable within the Council.

The Council seeks dedicated and hardworking individuals to fill the position of Labourer II (Buildings), which plays an important role in supporting construction and maintenance works within the district.

Labourer II (Buildings)
SALARY SCALE
A2 (P36,444.00 – P42,024.00 per annum)
LEAVE ENTITLEMENT
20 working days per annum
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must possess a minimum of a Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) certificate or its equivalent. This ensures that candidates have the basic literacy and numeracy skills required to carry out assigned duties effectively.
EXPERIENCE
Applicants must have at least two (2) years’ experience at A3 salary scale within a relevant work environment. The experience should demonstrate familiarity with general manual labour duties, particularly in construction, maintenance, or related activities.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The main purpose of the Labourer II (Buildings) position is to perform general manual labour duties in support of construction and maintenance works within the Council. The role involves assisting skilled personnel such as craftsmen by providing physical labour and ensuring that work sites are properly prepared, maintained, and cleaned.
The position is essential in ensuring that building projects and maintenance tasks are carried out efficiently and safely. The Labourer II contributes to the successful completion of projects by supporting daily operations and maintaining tools, materials, and work environments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the following duties:
- Loading and Offloading Materials
Loads and offloads tools, equipment, and construction materials to and from work sites. Ensures that materials are handled carefully to avoid damage and are transported safely.
- Mixing Materials
Mixes construction materials such as mortar, cement, paint, and other substances required for building and maintenance works. Ensures that mixtures are prepared according to specified standards and instructions.
- Assisting Craftsmen
Hands over tools and materials to craftsmen during construction and maintenance activities. Provides continuous support to ensure that work progresses efficiently without unnecessary delays.
- Erecting and Shifting Scaffolding
Assists in erecting and repositioning scaffolding to enable access to elevated work areas. Ensures that scaffolding is stable and safe for use.
- Site Preparation
Clears construction sites in preparation for building and maintenance works. Removes debris, vegetation, and any obstacles that may hinder operations.
- Digging Trenches
Digs trenches as required for construction projects, including foundation work and installation of utilities. Ensures that trenches are dug according to specifications.
- Transportation of Tools and Materials
Carries tools and materials to central points where work is to commence. Ensures that all necessary items are readily available for use by the work team.
- Cleaning and Maintenance of Tools
Washes and cleans tools after use to maintain their condition and ensure longevity. Reports any damaged or defective tools to supervisors.
- Storage of Equipment
Gathers tools and materials at the end of each working day and stores them safely. Ensures that equipment is properly secured to prevent loss or damage.
- General Site Maintenance
Maintains cleanliness and orderliness at work sites throughout the duration of projects. Promotes a safe and organized working environment.
- Compliance with Safety Procedures
Adheres to all safety guidelines and procedures while performing duties. Uses protective equipment as required to minimize risk of injury.
- Additional Duties
Undertakes any other related duties as may be assigned by management from time to time in line with the responsibilities of the position.
