Salary Scale

The annual salary scale for this position ranges from R263 736,00 to R366 300,00. The exact salary offered will be determined in accordance with the City’s remuneration policies, taking into account the successful candidate’s qualifications, experience, and competencies.


Estimated Total Remuneration Package

The estimated total remuneration package ranges from R367 621,00 to R498 166,00 per annum. This package includes the basic salary as well as additional benefits in line with municipal policies and applicable regulations.


Job Purpose

The primary purpose of the Permission Officer position is to ensure the effective and efficient processing of applications related to operating licences and rank permits within the Public Transport Operations Management section. The incumbent will play a crucial role in supporting the regulatory framework governing public transport operations within the City of Tshwane.

This position requires a detail-oriented and organised individual who can manage administrative processes accurately and consistently. The Permission Officer will contribute to ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, maintaining accurate records, and supporting decision-making processes through the provision of reliable data and reports.

The role is essential in facilitating lawful and structured public transport operations by ensuring that all applications are processed in accordance with established guidelines and that all stakeholders are provided with accurate and timely information.


Appointment Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • A Grade 12 qualification or equivalent
  • Relevant experience in an administrative environment, preferably within a government or regulatory context
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in standard office applications and database systems
  • Willingness to undergo a criminal record check as part of the recruitment process
  • Willingness to allow fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at the applicant’s own cost
  • Willingness and ability to work shifts and overtime when required to meet operational demands

Primary Functions and Key Responsibilities

The Permission Officer will be responsible for a range of administrative and operational tasks related to the processing of operating licences and rank permits. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Maintenance of Database Systems
The incumbent will ensure that all information related to operating licences and rank permits is accurately captured and maintained in the relevant database systems. This includes updating records, verifying data, and ensuring that all information is current and reliable.

Filing and Archiving Systems
The Permission Officer will organise and maintain filing and archiving systems associated with the issuance of licences and permits. This includes ensuring that all documentation is properly stored, easily accessible, and compliant with record-keeping standards.

Statistical Reporting
The role requires the preparation and submission of regular statistical reports. These reports may include data on applications received, processed, approved, or declined, and will support management in decision-making and planning processes.

Meeting Attendance and Support
The incumbent will attend meetings related to operating licences and permits. During these meetings, the Permission Officer will clarify information, take detailed notes of decisions made, and ensure that relevant information is communicated accurately to applicants and stakeholders.

Secretariat Support
The Permission Officer may be required to provide secretariat support during meetings. This includes preparing agendas, recording minutes, distributing documentation, and ensuring that all administrative aspects of meetings are handled efficiently.

Compliance with Legislation and Guidelines
The role involves ensuring that all processes and activities comply with relevant legislation, policies, and guidelines governing public transport operations. The Permission Officer must remain informed about applicable laws and ensure that all actions align with regulatory requirements.
