Job Purpose
The purpose of this position is to provide effective security services within the Magistrate Office by controlling access, monitoring security systems, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The Security Officer will be responsible for safeguarding the premises, preventing unauthorized access, and maintaining order at all times.
This role is essential in supporting the operations of the Department by ensuring that all security measures are implemented and adhered to in accordance with legislative frameworks and departmental policies.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification
- Knowledge of physical security procedures and processes
- Understanding of safety and security legislative frameworks
- PSIRA Grade C registration

Key Responsibilities
The Security Officer will be responsible for performing a variety of security-related duties, including but not limited to the following:
- Controlling access to the building by verifying the identity of staff, visitors, and service providers
- Ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed entry into the premises
- Monitoring and improving safety within the building and surrounding areas
- Preventing unauthorized items from entering or leaving the premises
- Conducting searches where necessary in accordance with security procedures
- Monitoring CCTV cameras and responding to any suspicious activities or incidents
- Enrolling staff members onto the biometric access control system
- Providing access to staff members who need to enter the premises during weekends or outside normal working hours
- Maintaining accurate records of visitors and access logs
- Responding to security incidents and reporting them to the relevant authorities
- Ensuring compliance with all safety and security regulations and procedures
- Assisting in emergency situations and supporting evacuation procedures where required
- Maintaining a visible security presence to deter criminal or unauthorized activities
Working Environment
The position is based at the Magistrate Office in Zwelitsha and operates within a government environment that requires professionalism, discipline, and adherence to strict security protocols. The role may involve working shifts, including weekends and after-hours, depending on operational requirements.
