The ARC-TSC is currently seeking to appoint ten (10) Casual Workers on a three-month fixed-term contract at its Burgershall facility in Mpumalanga.
This opportunity is ideal for individuals with a basic understanding of agriculture who are looking to gain hands-on experience in orchard operations and farm maintenance.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to support daily orchard operations through the execution of general maintenance and manual labour tasks.
Successful candidates will assist in ensuring that orchard environments are maintained effectively and that all assigned duties are carried out in line with operational and safety standards.
This position offers practical exposure to agricultural processes and provides an opportunity to work within a structured research environment.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidates will be required to perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
Carrying out general orchard duties such as planting, pruning, watering, and harvesting
Assisting with orchard maintenance to ensure optimal crop growth and production
Performing manual labour tasks as assigned by the supervisor
Using tools and equipment provided for daily operations
Maintaining tools and equipment in good working condition
Following all instructions provided by supervisors and team leaders
Ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards at all times
Supporting other farm-related activities as required
Candidates should be prepared to work in a physically demanding environment and contribute effectively to team-based tasks.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered:
Grade 10 qualification or equivalent
Basic understanding of agricultural practices
Familiarity with manual operation of farm equipment and machinery
Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks efficiently
Good verbal and written communication skills
Understanding of occupational health and safety procedures
Willingness to work outdoors under varying and sometimes adverse weather conditions
