Overview
The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Messenger. This role is essential in ensuring the efficient movement of documents, correspondence, and personnel within and between government offices.
A total of two posts are available at different centres within the Eastern Cape. The successful candidates will be responsible for providing reliable driver and messenger services while also assisting with basic clerical duties.

Job Purpose
The purpose of this position is to provide effective messenger and transport support services within the respective offices. The Messenger will ensure the timely delivery and collection of official correspondence, documents, and parcels, as well as the safe transportation of officials when required.
The role also includes assisting with basic administrative and clerical support functions to ensure smooth daily operations within the office environment.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 10 or ABET Level 4 qualification
- A valid driver’s licence

Key Responsibilities
The Messenger will be responsible for carrying out a range of transport and support duties, including but not limited to the following:
- Providing driver and messenger support services within the assigned office
- Collecting, sorting, and distributing correspondence, mail, and parcels to various offices and departments
- Collecting official documents from other government institutions as required
- Delivering documents and parcels safely and timeously to designated destinations
- Transporting officials to various destinations in line with operational requirements
- Ensuring that all items transported are handled securely and delivered to the correct recipients
- Maintaining accurate records of deliveries and collections where required
- Providing basic clerical support services as directed by supervisors
- Ensuring that the assigned vehicle is clean, roadworthy, and properly maintained
- Reporting any vehicle defects or operational issues to the relevant authority immediately
- Adhering to all traffic regulations and departmental transport policies
Working Environment
The position operates within government offices located in Motherwell and Port Elizabeth. The successful candidates will be expected to work in a structured environment that requires discipline, punctuality, and professionalism.
The role may involve daily travel between offices and institutions, requiring flexibility and good time management. The job also requires adherence to strict confidentiality when handling official documents.
