Overview
The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Telecom Operator. This role is essential in ensuring effective communication services within Magistrate Offices by managing telephone switchboard systems and facilitating smooth internal and external communication.
A total of two posts are available at different locations within the Eastern Cape. The successful candidates will serve as the first point of contact for incoming calls and will be responsible for ensuring that communication is handled professionally, efficiently, and accurately at all times.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this position is to provide efficient and reliable telecommunications support services within the Magistrate Offices. The Telecom Operator will be responsible for managing incoming and outgoing calls, operating the switchboard system, and ensuring that messages are accurately conveyed to the relevant personnel.
The role is critical in maintaining effective communication flow within the office environment and ensuring that all callers receive professional and courteous service.
Minimum Requirements

- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification

Key Responsibilities
The Telecom Operator will be responsible for carrying out the following duties:
- Operating the telephone switchboard and managing all incoming and outgoing calls
- Transferring calls to the correct departments or individuals in a timely manner
- Taking accurate messages and ensuring they are conveyed promptly to the relevant staff members
- Ensuring that the switchboard is manned at all times during working hours
- Providing a professional and courteous first point of contact for all callers
- Maintaining confidentiality when handling sensitive information
- Assisting with basic administrative duties related to communication services
- Reporting any faults or issues with telecommunications equipment to the relevant authority
- Supporting general office communication needs as required by management
- Ensuring that all communication procedures are followed in accordance with departmental policies
