Oceangrown Aquaculture is inviting applications from suitably qualified and motivated individuals for the position of General Worker – Boat Crew. This opportunity is ideal for candidates who are passionate about working in the aquaculture industry and are comfortable operating in a marine and physically demanding environment.

The successful candidate will form part of a dedicated team responsible for supporting offshore and onshore aquaculture operations, particularly in the production of mussels and oysters.


This role requires a strong work ethic, the ability to follow instructions, and a willingness to work both independently and as part of a team. Candidates must be reliable, adaptable, and committed to maintaining high standards of safety, hygiene, and productivity.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be expected to carry out a range of operational duties, including but not limited to:
Harvesting, grading, and sorting of oysters and mussels according to company standards
Cleaning and general maintenance of oyster and mussel longline infrastructure to ensure optimal production conditions


Assisting with mooring installations and related marine activities
Cleaning and maintaining vessel areas to ensure safety and operational readiness
Performing general vessel duties as directed by the Skipper
Supporting onshore operations as required, including loading, offloading, and basic site maintenance


Ensuring all tasks are carried out in compliance with safety regulations and company procedures
This role involves physically demanding tasks and working in varying weather conditions. Candidates must therefore be physically fit and prepared to work at sea when required.


JOB REQUIREMENTS
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
Pre-Sea training or relevant maritime exposure
Valid SAMSA medical certificate or the ability to pass a SAMSA medical examination
Basic understanding of safety procedures in a marine environment
The following qualifications and experience will be considered advantageous:
Firefighting certification


First Aid certification
Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
While previous experience in aquaculture or marine operations is beneficial, it is not mandatory. Training may be provided for suitable candidates who demonstrate the right attitude and willingness to learn.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position involves working both offshore and onshore, often in challenging environmental conditions. Employees may be required to work early mornings, extended hours, and weekends depending on operational needs.

The role requires physical endurance, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Safety is a top priority at Oceangrown Aquaculture, and all employees are expected to adhere strictly to safety guidelines and wear appropriate protective equipment at all times.
