Requirements:
Applicants must be in possession of a National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 4 Certificate or equivalent qualification. A valid professional registration with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) at Grade A level is mandatory. Candidates must also hold a valid National Key Point (NKP) Training Certificate as well as a Firearm Competency Certificate.
A sound understanding of the National Key Point Act (Act 102 of 1980) and its accompanying regulations is required. Applicants must demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation including the Labour Relations Act (Act 66 of 1995), the Criminal Procedure Act (Act 51 of 1997), the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, and the Strategic Intelligence Act. Knowledge of Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS) and physical security shift operations is essential.
The ideal candidate will possess strong threat and risk assessment capabilities, as well as investigation and interviewing skills. A comprehensive understanding of asset protection and information security principles is required to effectively plan and implement security programmes aligned with organisational objectives.
Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of legislative and policy frameworks governing the public sector, as well as an understanding of financial management, programme and project management, and policy development and implementation processes. Familiarity with safety regulations and compliance requirements within the sector will be an added advantage.
Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) are essential, along with the ability to compile reports, deliver presentations, and engage in professional networking. Applicants must exhibit accountability, integrity, and ethical conduct at all times. Knowledge of conflict management tools and methodologies is also required to handle challenging situations effectively.
Duties:
The successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining security at designated National Key Points (NKPs) and ensuring the protection of personnel, assets, and infrastructure. Key responsibilities include controlling and monitoring the movement of individuals, vehicles, and goods entering and exiting the premises. Officers will be required to verify authorisations and either permit or deny access in accordance with established procedures and security protocols.
Incumbents will respond promptly and effectively to security incidents, including apprehending unauthorised individuals when necessary and acting within the scope of the law. Continuous surveillance and monitoring of the premises and surrounding perimeter will be required to detect and prevent potential security breaches.
Security Officers will ensure that no equipment, documentation, or materials leave or enter the premises without proper authorisation. They will be responsible for safeguarding sensitive information and maintaining strict compliance with security regulations and policies.
Administrative responsibilities include maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all security-related activities. Officers must record incidents, observations, and actions taken in official occurrence books and registers, ensuring proper documentation for accountability and audit purposes.
The role also involves supporting compliance with established security standards and contributing to the implementation of security measures that align with organisational goals. Officers may be required to participate in risk assessments, security audits, and ongoing improvement initiatives.
