South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA)
According to the National Qualifications Framework Act No. 67 of 2008, the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) is a statutory organization. [2] It is composed of 29 individuals chosen by the minister of education after consulting the minister of labor. The National Qualifications Framework establishment and implementation fall under the legal authority of SAQA (NQF)
The National Qualifications Framework
The NQF is a framework, which means it establishes the limits, principles, and directives that serve as a mission, a philosophical foundation, and an organizational framework for the development of a qualifications system. Within these restrictions, thorough development and execution are carried out. In South Africa, this framework applies to all forms of instruction and training.
It represents a national endeavor to combine education and training into a single structure of recognized certifications, making it a national resource. It is a framework for credentials, or a list of student accomplishments.
An integrated system that promotes lifelong learning is ensured by the NQF, a set of principles and criteria by which records of learner achievement are registered to enable national acknowledgment of gained skills and knowledge.
Levels 1 to 4 correspond to high school grades 9 through 12 or vocational training, Levels 5 to 7 to college diplomas and technical qualifications, and Levels 7 to 10 to university degrees. The NQF is made up of 10 levels separated into three bands.
