Overview

The Department of Defence invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Driver Operator at Air Force Base Waterkloof. This opportunity is ideal for individuals with proven driving experience who are committed to maintaining high standards of safety, discipline, and service delivery within a structured environment.

A total of three posts are available. The successful candidates will play an important role in supporting operational and administrative functions by ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of personnel, documents, and goods.


Job Purpose

The purpose of this position is to provide reliable driving and transport support services, including the safe conveyance of passengers, delivery and collection of documents, and maintenance of assigned vehicles. The Driver Operator is responsible for ensuring that all transport-related duties are carried out in compliance with relevant legislation, departmental policies, and operational procedures.

The role also includes administrative support functions and requires a high level of responsibility, attention to detail, and adherence to safety standards.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 11 (NQF Level 3) or equivalent qualification
  • A valid Code C1 driver’s licence
  • A minimum of three (3) years proven driving experience

Key Responsibilities

The Driver Operator will be responsible for performing a variety of transport and support duties, including but not limited to the following:

  • Conducting routine checks on vehicles to ensure they are in good working condition before and after use
  • Monitoring and tracking the condition of the vehicle at all times and reporting any defects or mechanical issues to the supervisor without delay
  • Driving light and medium vehicles to transport passengers, documents, and other items safely and efficiently
  • Providing messenger and administrative services, including collecting and delivering documents, parcels, and equipment as directed
  • Ensuring that all goods and items transported are handled with care and delivered to the correct destination
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records in the vehicle logbook, including details of trips, fuel usage, and transported goods
  • Ensuring the cleanliness and general maintenance of the assigned vehicle
  • Adhering strictly to all transport legislation, traffic regulations, and departmental policies
  • Supporting operational requirements by being available to work irregular hours when necessary
  • Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive documents or transporting personnel
  • Assisting with any additional duties related to transport and logistics as required by management

Working Environment

The position is based at Air Force Base Waterkloof in Pretoria and operates within a military environment that requires discipline, reliability, and adherence to strict procedures. The role may involve working outside normal office hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays, depending on operational needs.

The work requires physical and mental alertness, as well as the ability to manage time effectively and respond to changing schedules or urgent transport requirements.
