Overview

Job Purpose
The purpose of this position is to assist with the preparation, handling, and serving of food and beverages in a safe, hygienic, and efficient manner. The Food Service Aid plays a key role in maintaining cleanliness and ensuring that all food service areas meet required standards of hygiene and safety.
The successful candidates will support kitchen staff and ensure that all food-related operations run smoothly, contributing to the overall well-being and satisfaction of personnel at the base.
Minimum Requirements

- A minimum of an ABET qualification or equivalent
- No prior work experience is required

Key Responsibilities
The Food Service Aid will be responsible for supporting various food service functions, including but not limited to the following:
- Assisting with the hygienic preparation of food, including washing, cutting, and cooking ingredients as required
- Supporting the serving of meals and beverages, ensuring that food is presented appropriately and served efficiently
- Preparing and serving tea, coffee, and other beverages
- Supplying water to dining tables and ensuring that all service areas are properly stocked
- Maintaining cleanliness in all kitchen, dining hall, and food storage areas
- Removing kitchen waste and ensuring proper disposal in accordance with hygiene standards
- Packing and storing food supplies in designated storage areas upon delivery
- Washing dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment after use
- Cleaning up after meals and ensuring that all workspaces are left in a clean and orderly condition
- Setting dining tables, including arranging table settings and decorations where required
- Waiting on tables and assisting diners as needed
- Ensuring that only authorized personnel have access to the kitchen and dining facilities
- Monitoring the serviceability of kitchen equipment and reporting any defects or shortages to the relevant authority
- Applying and maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety within the workplace at all times
Working Environment
This role is based within a military environment at Air Force Base Langebaanweg. The successful candidates will be expected to adhere to strict operational procedures and maintain discipline in line with Department of Defence standards.
The position may require working shifts, including weekends and public holidays, depending on operational requirements. The work involves physical activity, including standing for extended periods, lifting, and performing repetitive tasks in a kitchen environment.
