Requirements:
Applicants must be in possession of a Grade 10 certificate or an equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA. A Basic Security Officer’s course registered with PSIRA is essential. Candidates should have a minimum of one year of experience in the security industry. A valid driver’s licence will be considered an added advantage.
All shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo a pre-entry practical exercise as part of the selection process. This assessment is designed to evaluate candidates’ suitability for the position, based on both technical competencies and generic requirements.
Applicants must demonstrate sound knowledge and skills relevant to the role. These include good communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as strong interpersonal and public relations abilities. The ability to interact professionally with a wide range of stakeholders, including court users, colleagues, and external partners, is essential.
Duties:
The successful candidates will be responsible for ensuring that outsourced security officers deliver efficient and effective security services to the court on a daily basis. This includes monitoring and ensuring that all security and biometric systems within the court buildings are functioning effectively and efficiently at all times.
The role requires daily engagement with outsourced security officials to obtain reports on the performance of both security personnel and biometric systems. All incidents occurring within or around the court premises must be reported promptly to the relevant authorities.
Candidates will be expected to treat all clients, court users, and colleagues with professionalism, fairness, and respect at all times. Responsibilities include capturing biometric data for new personnel and ensuring that such data is removed for individuals leaving the department.
The position also involves attending meetings with external stakeholders such as SAPS, EMS, Fire Brigade, and TMPD during high-profile cases. Monthly meetings with outsourced security officials must be attended to evaluate and improve overall security performance at the court.
The successful candidates must ensure that no prohibited items, such as liquor or video cameras, are brought into the building without proper authorisation. They will assist in monitoring and evaluating the performance of outsourced security officials, particularly during peak hours and high-profile court proceedings.
A key responsibility includes reviewing CCTV footage, identifying incidents, and saving relevant recordings for further investigation. Continuous monitoring of access points is required to ensure effective access control. The role also involves overseeing all movements, events, and activities within the court premises using CCTV systems.
Candidates will be required to conduct regular building inspections and patrols to identify, assess, and verify security conditions. They must be capable of applying emergency procedures in situations such as bomb threats, riots, or other security risks, and must alert emergency services and departmental management when necessary.
Monitoring and responding to alarm systems is part of the daily responsibilities. Accurate and timely updates must be made in the occurrence book or register, with verification from supervisors to ensure correctness of recorded information.
The role includes managing crowd control by coordinating with security officials to address overcrowding on specific floors. Ensuring that no court property leaves the premises without proper authorisation is critical.
Candidates will assist in regulating the number of visitors entering the court, particularly in group situations. They may be required to accompany bomb squad teams during security sweeps of the building, especially prior to the arrival of VIPs or the commencement of court terms.
Regular building inspections and patrols must be conducted, and strict adherence to access control procedures for all individuals entering the building must be enforced at all times.
