Main Purpose of the Job:
Support patients throughout the admissions and discharges process in a professional manner, aiming to prevent operational and financial risks while surpassing client expectations.
Key Responsibility Areas:
- Ensure accurate processing of admissions, including pre-admissions/bookings, in accordance with established procedures.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks by adhering to organizational policies and procedures.
- Facilitate an efficient discharge process in alignment with the Patient Administration Manual.
- Uphold patient confidentiality at all times.
Required Education:
- Essential Education: Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Desired Education: None.
Required Experience:
- Essential Minimum Experience: None.
- Desired Experience: Previous experience in reception administration; familiarity with private healthcare facility operations.
Required Job Skills and Knowledge:
- Proficiency in Debtpack Enquiry application to check outstanding amounts for flagged patients.
- Competence in admission, bed functions, preparation for the next day, and discharge processes.
- Knowledge of anatomy, including terminology.
- Familiarity with hospital switchboard systems.
- Understanding of Patient Administration policies and procedures (e.g., Patient Confidentiality, Cash Handling, Blacklisted patients, Bed Overrides, etc.).
- Familiarity with patient admin programs on the AS400 system.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of ICD and CPT codes.
- Understanding of Medical Aid Schemes and the private healthcare environment.
- Familiarity with Workmans Compensation Act (WCA) processes, procedures, and policies.
- Knowledge of Emergency/Major Incident Protocol (e.g., Fire, floods, robbery).
- Ability to identify potential financial risks (e.g., blacklisted patients, handling patient valuables, etc.).
