This permanent position is based in the Western Cape and is ideal for a reliable, responsible, and service-driven candidate who takes pride in delivering excellent customer service.
The primary purpose of this role is to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely collection and delivery of goods, including specimens, reports, and other materials. The Courier will also be responsible for providing shuttle services where required, while maintaining high standards of professionalism and compliance with organisational and safety policies.
This role plays a vital part in supporting healthcare operations, ensuring that critical items are transported securely and reach their destinations without delay or damage.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the following duties:
- Route Planning and Task Management:
Review assigned tasks and delivery requirements daily by checking system updates and collection lists. Plan efficient routes to ensure all deliveries and collections are completed within required timeframes. - Collection and Delivery Services:
Collect and deliver specimens, reports, and other goods between laboratories, healthcare providers, and clients. Ensure all items are handled with care and transported safely to maintain their integrity and quality. - Customer Service Excellence:
Provide professional and courteous service to all clients, including healthcare professionals and laboratory staff. Maintain a positive image of the organisation at all times. - Proof of Delivery Documentation:
Accurately complete and obtain signatures for proof of delivery or collection. Ensure all documentation is properly recorded and stored for tracking and auditing purposes. - Tracking and Scanning:
Use the Courier Management Programme to scan specimens and results during collection and delivery. Ensure all items are traceable within the system to support operational efficiency and accountability. - Asset Management:
Take responsibility for company assets, including vehicles, fuel cards, uniforms, and equipment. Ensure they are used appropriately, maintained in good condition, and reported if damaged or malfunctioning. - Health and Safety Compliance:
Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations by using appropriate protective gear such as gloves, specimen bags, and eye protection. Ensure safe handling of potentially hazardous materials at all times. - Incident and Accident Reporting:
Promptly report any incidents or accidents involving vehicles, goods, or personal injury. Complete all necessary documentation and submit reports to management to facilitate timely insurance claims and repairs. - Vehicle Maintenance and Cleanliness:
Ensure that company vehicles are kept clean and in good working condition. Report any mechanical issues or hazards immediately and maintain compliance with quality assurance standards. - Hazard Management:
Report any spills or exposure to hazardous materials immediately and follow proper procedures to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must meet the following requirements to be considered for this position:
- Grade 12 certificate or relevant NQF Level 4 qualification (preferred)
- Alternatively, Grade 10 with 2–3 years of relevant working experience, or a minimum of 10 years of courier experience
- A valid and appropriate driver’s licence
- Good understanding of road safety and traffic regulations
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively
Experience
- Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in a courier or delivery-related role (if holding Grade 10)
- Extensive courier experience (10 years or more) will be considered in lieu of formal qualifications
- Experience in handling sensitive or medical-related deliveries will be advantageous

The Courier must be physically fit, alert, and capable of working independently while maintaining high levels of accuracy and responsibility.
