Rand Water is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Brush Hand based in Vereeniging. This role forms part of the Bulk Water Services – Operations portfolio and reports directly to the Building Foreperson.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing essential support to the Painter in maintaining the visual appearance, safety, and operational standards of Rand Water’s infrastructure
. This includes assisting with the preparation and painting of plant equipment, buildings, parking areas, road markings, fences, poles, and other facilities.
The role is critical in ensuring that all structures remain presentable, protected, and compliant with organizational standards and safety regulations.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Grade 12 (Matric) or an equivalent qualification.
A minimum of six (6) months relevant job-related experience.
Basic training in painting will be advantageous.
Safety training will serve as an added advantage.
Candidates who demonstrate a willingness to learn, adapt, and work in physically demanding environments will be highly considered.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Brush Hand will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support painting and maintenance operations. Key responsibilities include:
Providing general assistance to Painters during daily maintenance and painting tasks.
Carrying tools, materials, and equipment to and from work sites as required.
Assisting in the preparation of surfaces such as floors, walls, ceilings, and furniture before painting begins.
Supporting the setup and preparation of scaffolding to ensure safe access to elevated work areas.
Applying undercoats and paint in accordance with Rand Water procedures and quality standards.
Fetching paint, tools, and other required materials from stores or designated areas.
Assisting with the application of final coats of paint to ensure a clean, professional finish.
Performing general housekeeping duties, including cleaning painting tools such as brushes and rollers.
Ensuring that all work areas are kept neat, organized, and safe at all times.
The role requires physical stamina and the ability to work in various conditions, including at heights and in confined spaces.
Knowledge Requirements
To perform effectively in this role, the candidate should possess:
Basic knowledge of paint application techniques using brushes, rollers, and related tools.
An understanding of workplace safety regulations and procedures.
Familiarity with painting tools, equipment, and materials.
While advanced technical expertise is not required, a foundational understanding of painting and maintenance practices will be beneficial.
