An exciting opportunity has become available for a dedicated and service-driven individual to join the team at Life St Dominic’s Hospital as a Porter. This role reports directly to the Patient Services Supervisor, Lindsey Du Preez, and plays a critical part in supporting the daily operations of the hospital.

The successful candidate will contribute to ensuring that patients, staff, and visitors experience efficient and compassionate service at all times.


Introduction
The Porter role is essential in maintaining the smooth functioning of hospital operations. The position is focused on providing a supportive function to nursing staff as well as assisting administrative departments.

The Porter will be responsible for the safe transportation of patients within the hospital and ensuring that important items such as medical documents, medication, and equipment are delivered promptly and efficiently.


This role requires a highly responsible individual who is capable of working in a fast-paced healthcare environment while maintaining professionalism, empathy, and attention to detail.

The successful candidate will also be required to assist with physically demanding tasks and contribute to maintaining a safe and clean hospital environment.


Key Responsibilities
The Porter will be expected to perform a variety of duties that directly support patient care and hospital operations, including but not limited to:


Provide prompt, courteous, and professional service to patients, healthcare professionals, visitors, and colleagues.
Safely transport patients between wards, departments, and other areas within the hospital, ensuring their comfort and dignity at all times.


Deliver prescriptions, ECG results, X-rays, and other important medical documentation or equipment to relevant departments efficiently.
Transport stock, stationery, and other hospital supplies to designated areas as required.


Assist nursing staff with lifting and moving patients when necessary, following proper safety procedures.
Perform hospital driver duties when required, ensuring safe and compliant transportation practices.


Maintain cleanliness and safety in all work areas, contributing to a well-organized hospital environment.
Support administrative departments with basic operational tasks under supervision.


Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Grade 12 (Matric) qualification is essential.
A valid driver’s license is required.
A valid PDP (Public Driving Permit) is mandatory.


Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and moving patients.
Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and overtime as required.
Strong customer service orientation with a patient-centered approach.


Ability to work effectively under pressure in a dynamic environment.
Advantageous Qualifications and Experience
While not mandatory, the following will be considered beneficial:


Previous experience within a healthcare or hospital environment.
Understanding of the private healthcare industry and its operational challenges.
Familiarity with hospital systems, processes, and patient care standards.
