INTRODUCTION
Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified and motivated employees of the Gaborone City Council to fill the position listed below. This opportunity is open strictly to internal candidates who meet the outlined requirements and are prepared to contribute meaningfully to the delivery of essential emergency and safety services within the community of Gaborone.
POSITION DETAILS
Post: Fireman III
Salary Scale: B4 (P57,358.00 – P65,424.00 per annum)
Additional Allowance: P798.80 Housing and Upkeep Allowance per month
JOB PURPOSE
The primary purpose of this role is to provide firefighting, rescue, and public safety services to the community. The successful candidate will play a critical role in protecting life, property, and the environment by responding to emergency incidents and ensuring readiness of fire and rescue equipment at all times.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:
Junior Certificate or Cambridge qualification
Age Requirement:
Candidates must be between 18 and 30 years of age
Fitness Requirements:
Applicants must be physically and mentally fit
Must not have any physical handicap that could hinder performance of duties
Experience:
Direct entry position (no prior experience required, although relevant exposure will be an added advantage)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Fireman III will be expected to carry out a range of duties that support emergency response and community safety. These include, but are not limited to:
Responding promptly to fire outbreaks, rescue operations, and other emergency incidents
Providing first aid and basic medical care to victims during emergencies
Monitoring and recording patients’ conditions while en route to medical facilities
Receiving emergency calls in the control room and dispatching appropriate fire and rescue equipment
Inspecting, maintaining, and ensuring readiness of firefighting and rescue equipment
Participating in fire drills and operational training exercises to maintain preparedness
Cleaning and maintaining ambulances, fire engines, and associated equipment
Ensuring that communication systems and devices are functioning correctly at all times
Assisting in the control and coordination of movement of fire appliances
Recording operational data and maintaining accurate incident reports
Performing any other related duties as may be assigned by management from time to time
