Purpose of the Position

The primary purpose of this role is to provide food service and catering support to the Land Court by preparing and serving food and beverages, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, managing food supplies, and ensuring compliance with hygiene and safety standards.

The successful candidate will contribute to the efficient operation of the court’s catering facilities while ensuring that kitchen equipment, food storage areas, and dining spaces remain clean, organised, and fully operational.

Salary and Employment Conditions

The successful applicant will receive:

  • Salary ranging from R170 226 to R200 523 per annum
  • Salary Level 3
  • Permanent employment within the Office of the Chief Justice

The appointed candidate will also be required to sign a performance agreement in accordance with departmental requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • NQF Level 1 or Level 2 qualification.
  • ABET Level 2 Certificate or an equivalent qualification.

No previous work experience is required.

However, previous experience in a hospitality or food service environment will serve as an added advantage.

All shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a pre-entry practical assessment to evaluate their technical abilities and general competencies relevant to the position.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will perform a variety of food service and kitchen support duties, including:

Food Preparation

  • Prepare meals according to instructions.
  • Prepare light snacks for meetings and official functions.
  • Prepare hot and cold beverages.
  • Prepare tea, coffee, milk, sugar, water, and cold drinks for staff and visitors.
  • Ensure food is prepared in accordance with hygiene standards.
  • Assist with meal preparation during official events.

Catering Support Services

  • Provide catering support during meetings and official functions.
  • Arrange refreshments for visitors and stakeholders.
  • Assist with serving food and beverages.
  • Ensure food is presented neatly and professionally.
  • Support smooth catering operations during departmental activities.

Kitchen Cleaning

  • Wash dishes after meals and functions.
  • Clean kitchen utensils thoroughly.
  • Clean food preparation equipment.
  • Sanitize work surfaces.
  • Maintain cleanliness of sinks and food preparation areas.
  • Keep kitchen floors clean and hazard-free.

Stock Control

  • Keep records of kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Monitor food supplies.
  • Report shortages of supplies.
  • Report damaged equipment.
  • Assist with receiving deliveries.
  • Pack food supplies correctly in storage areas.
  • Ensure stock is properly organised.

Food Storage

  • Store food according to safety requirements.
  • Rotate stock where applicable.
  • Keep food storage areas clean.

  • Monitor storage conditions.
  • Report expired or damaged food items.

Dining Area Preparation

  • Set tables before meals.
  • Arrange crockery and cutlery.

Hygiene and Safety

  • Apply food hygiene standards.

Waste Management

  • Remove kitchen waste regularly.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Ensure kitchen equipment remains serviceable.
  • Report faulty equipment immediately.

Security and Access Control

  • Ensure only authorised personnel enter kitchen areas.
  • Prevent unauthorised access to food supplies.

  • Maintain quality standards for food served.
  • Ensure food is fresh and properly prepared.
