Job Purpose

The Food Services Assistant will support the day-to-day operations of the catering unit by performing a variety of tasks related to food preparation, service delivery, cleanliness, and compliance with health and safety standards. The role requires a proactive individual who can contribute to both back-of-house food production and front-of-house customer service, ensuring that all operations run smoothly and efficiently.

The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining high standards of hygiene, food safety, and customer satisfaction while supporting the broader team in delivering quality catering services.


Key Responsibilities

The Food Services Assistant will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to the following:

  • Ensuring that all company and statutory regulations related to cleanliness, hygiene, and food safety are consistently adhered to in all tasks performed
  • Supporting the preparation and production of meals, with a focus on items such as salads and desserts
  • Assisting in the presentation and serving of food, including placing entrees, salads, desserts, and other items on the serving line
  • Maintaining the serving line to ensure it is clean, organized, and well-stocked at all times
  • Keeping all kitchen areas, canteen tables, and service areas clean, tidy, and hygienic
  • Recording and storing leftover food in accordance with food safety standards and company procedures
  • Ensuring that customer expectations are met within the scope of the service contract
  • Delivering a high level of customer service and maintaining a professional attitude when interacting with clients and customers
  • Assisting with stock control where required, including counting and handing over stock to the next shift
  • Reporting customer feedback, complaints, or compliments to management and taking appropriate action where possible
  • Participating in training sessions and team meetings as required
  • Assisting in the onboarding and training of new employees when necessary
  • Performing any additional reasonable duties assigned by management

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Education: Completed National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification
  • Experience: Previous experience in a cleaning, catering, hospitality, or similar environment is preferred but not essential

Working Conditions

The role may require working in a busy kitchen and service environment, including standing for extended periods and performing physical tasks such as lifting, cleaning, and food preparation. Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, or public holidays may be required depending on operational needs.
