Overview
A rewarding opportunity is available for a skilled and detail-oriented individual to join the Operations team as an Operator (Paint). This role is based in Kempton Park and plays a vital part in ensuring aircraft and related components are properly prepared for painting processes.

The successful candidate will contribute to maintaining high-quality standards, safety compliance, and operational efficiency within a professional aviation workshop environment.


Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this role is to perform the final preparation of aircraft and aircraft components prior to paint stripping or painting. This includes working with hand tools and pneumatic machinery such as orbital sanders.

The role requires precision, adherence to procedures, and a strong understanding of workshop safety and quality standards.


Key Responsibilities
Carry out preparation of aircraft and components through sanding and masking processes
Ensure all surfaces are properly prepared prior to painting or paint stripping


Acknowledge receipt of work and monitor the movement of work-in-progress items
Complete and sign off all relevant documentation accurately, including labour reporting


Assist with general housekeeping in the hangar and workshop areas
Clean workspaces, tools, and equipment regularly to maintain safety and efficiency
Support technicians with preparation tasks and general workshop activities


Perform washing and cleaning of aircraft parts to ensure readiness for processing
Sand aircraft parts using appropriate tools and techniques
Assist with sealant-related activities, including removal, cleaning of lap joints, and application/removal of masking tape


Remove tape and other materials after job completion
Ensure proper handling and movement of equipment, spares, and materials
Support the control and organization of workshop inventory and resources


Follow all laid-down procedures and standard operating guidelines strictly
Perform duties assigned by paint technicians, Senior Leadership Team members, Production Leaders, or Senior Managers


Maintain cleanliness and order in all working areas at all times
Ensure no parts are placed directly on the floor without appropriate protective material
Work safely with various chemicals, thinners, and solvents as required


Be prepared to work at elevated heights when necessary


Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification (NQF Level 4)
Basic computer literacy
Willingness to work in a technical and physically demanding environment


Knowledge and Skills
Basic understanding of technical workshop operations, preferably within an aviation environment


Familiarity with handling hazardous materials and chemicals safely
Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team


Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to follow instructions and adhere to strict procedures
Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
