Salary and Benefits

The successful candidate will receive a salary ranging from R138 486 to R163 131 per annum. In addition to the annual salary, the package includes service benefits such as a 13th cheque, employer contributions to the pension fund, housing allowance, and medical aid assistance.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered:

A valid Code B or EB driver’s licence

A valid Public Driving Permit (PDP)

Appropriate driving experience, including transporting employees and delivering goods

Basic numeracy and literacy skills

Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly

Physically fit and capable of lifting and loading heavy items

Willingness to work overtime, perform standby duties, and work on weekends and public holidays

Key Responsibilities

Transportation Duties

The Driver will be responsible for transporting goods, personnel, patients, medication, and equipment safely and efficiently between various locations. This includes transporting patients with an escort where required, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the journey.

The role also involves delivering and collecting daily mail and documents to and from relevant institutions, ensuring that all deliveries are completed accurately and on time.

Vehicle Maintenance and Care

The Driver must conduct routine inspections of assigned vehicles to ensure they are roadworthy and in good working condition. This includes checking fuel levels, oil, tyres, brakes, and other essential components before and after trips.

Any defects or maintenance issues must be reported promptly to the relevant supervisor to ensure timely repairs. The Driver is also responsible for keeping vehicles clean, both inside and outside, maintaining a professional appearance at all times.

Administrative Duties

Accurate completion of logbooks and trip records is a critical part of the role. The Driver must ensure that all journeys, mileage, fuel usage, and related information are properly documented in accordance with departmental procedures.

Compliance with all departmental policies, procedures, and transport regulations is essential. The Driver must adhere to all operational guidelines to ensure accountability and transparency in the use of government vehicles.

Support Services

The Driver may be required to provide support to supervisors, clinics, and other healthcare staff as needed. This may include assisting with loading and unloading goods, supporting logistics operations, and ensuring that urgent transport needs are met promptly.

Flexibility is essential, as the role may require working beyond standard hours, including standby duties after hours, weekends, and public holidays, depending on operational requirements.

Selection Process

Candidates will undergo a thorough selection process, which may include written, practical, and oral assessments to evaluate their suitability for the role. Shortlisted candidates will also be subject to competency tests and pre-entry assessments.
